How do I enrol?

Enrolment is straightforward. There is an enrolment form available at: www.thefishsite.com/learn/atlanticsalmon

There is also a demonstration video available there which outlines what the course contains and how the course works.

How much does it cost?

The cost for a single registration to the course is £295 + VAT. For companies who wish to enrol several delegates to the course, of for universities who may wish to enrol more than one student, please contact Matt Colvan: matt.colvan@5mpublishing.com

What qualification do I get at the end?

You will be issued with a certificate indicating that you have successfully completed the course.

Which bodies is this course approved by? 

The course is based on face-to-face courses delivered by Fish Vet Group which are recognised by the RSPCA.

How long does the course take to complete?

You should allow yourself 10 - 12 hours to complete the course.

Can I take this course on my phone or tablet?

You can engage with the course via phone and tablet, however the interactive lessons may look small on your device, particularly on phones. We recommended engaging with the interactive lessons via a computer. However, you can access the course to check the discussion board and additional resources via your other devices.

Can any of the course information be downloaded?

The presentations cannot be downloaded but there are resources available in the dedicated resource section.

Is there a recommended reading list?

It is highly recommended that you are familiar with the RSPCA’s Welfare Standard for farmed Atlantic Salmon, available from: https://science.rspca.org.uk/sciencegroup/farmanimals/standards/salmon

If I do not pass a module, can I re-sit it?

In order to pass a module you must get a final score of 60% or higher. If you do not achieve this, you are able to revisit the lesson and retake the quiz as many times as you need to achieve the pass mark.

How soon are test results provided?

You will receive immediate feedback and scores upon completion of the interactive lesson.

When is the certificate issued?

Your certificate is issued upon completion of all seven modules. You will receive your certificate via email but you can also access your certificate directly in the course, under the Certificate section.

How long is the certificate valid?

There is no expiry date on the certificate, however we will contact you to advise you of any updates to the course, for example due to changes in legislation or standards.

My employer is funding my course registration fee. How will my employer be notified when I have successfully completed the course?

When the course has been successfully completed you will receive a certificate showing that the course has been completed and this certificate can be shared with your employer.

How frequently will the course be updated? 

Course content is reviewed annually. The course will be updated following any change to relevant legislation, the Salmon Welfare Standards or industry best practice.

Is the course available in other languages?

The course is currently available in the English language. Fish Vet Group are considering making the course available in Spanish and possibly other languages.

Does the course cover freshwater salmon production?

The course focuses on the marine stages in Atlantic salmon farming, but includes some key information on freshwater systems, for example stocking densities, smoltification and transportation.

Is there a course covering other farmed fish species?

We have a course in preparation covering cleaner fish and this will be available during the middle part of 2019. Courses covering other species are under consideration.

Once I’ve registered, how long do I have to complete the course?

The course can be completed in a time-frame to suit an individual. The course is likely to take around 10 hours to complete and we recommend that the course is taken during a period of 1 month.

Is there on-line help available?

Should you have any issues with the course, please raise a ticket in the Technical Support forum. 

What happens if I do not have a Company e-mail address? How will I register?

You will need a valid email address to take the course. Your email address does not have to be a company email address. You will also need a reliable broadband/internet connection to take the course.

What are the technical requirements for engaging with the course? 

We recommend the following browsers:

Windows: Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox (latest version)

Mac: Safari (latest version), Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox (latest version)

Mobile: Safari in Apple iOS 10 or later, Google Chrome in Apple iOS 10 or later, Google Chrome in Android OS 4.4 or later

You should also connect to the site with a 4g mobile connection or home/office broadband connection.
